As way of introduction, I am honored to be recently elected as the new Kentucky Recreation and Parks Society (KRPS) District 1 board representative. Big thanks to Ross Leigh of Daviess Co. Parks and Recreation who has held this position for a number of years. He will remain involved in KRPS and has already been quite helpful in transition. District 1 represents Daviess County south to Christian County and then all counties to the west.
As a resident of western KY for over 30 years it’s become obvious that our end of the Commonwealth often gets forgotten since we’re not in the “Golden Triangle” or at least not in the Eastern Time Zone. Meetings we’d like to attend (in all areas of community government) are too far away or start at crazy early times of the morning. They take the whole day and would require expensive overnight lodging costs. So we often simply don’t participate. Consequently, a big goal for the upcoming year is to provide our KRPS District/Region a few FREE opportunities, within easy central drives of our communities, to get together and talk Parks and Recreation in convenient locations and sensible time frames. We can address opportunities, challenges, funding, programming, facilities, staffing, maintenance – whatever would be most beneficial to YOU.
We realize that not all of our counties have parks and recreation departments or directors. It’s up to the Judge Executive or Mayor to decide which of your team members might benefit most from a gathering to talk parks and recreation. If this is you, and you have a team member you would like to add to our email list, please send a note back here and it will be done.
If you are not a member of KRPS at this time, please let us know. We’d love to include you and your team in these District 1 meetings to show you the value of annual KRPS membership, which is very inexpensive.
I look forward to hearing back from all of you so we can start planning for topics and a potential meeting dates that would work for most of you.
Regards,
